"I Been Everywhere" not quite, but we're working on it! : Managed to get to all 50 states over the years. Here's a compilation of the travels - in no particular order - from Alaska to Texas, Hawaii to the Yukon - and quite a few "furin-soundin'" places too.

Tom's Motorcycles, Past and Present : My first bike was a 1959 Zundapp Super Sabre that I bought for @ $250 in the fall of 1965. Rode that thing all thru the winter in Southern Illinois . Next was my first, and , to date only new bike - a 1966 Ducati Scrambler. It was a great bike to tear around on the cinder and gravel back roads - you could broadslide the baby just like Freddy Nix -OK, on one of his off days :). Kept it all thru college then sold it to my brother when I went into the Air Force. He beat the crap out of it and I got it back again 4 years later in 1975 - in a basket spray painted lemon yellow! I renovated the Duke into a road bike - modeled after the Diana, complete w/ authentic Ducati Racing megaphone exhuast(Whaat! I can't hear you!), 11,000 rpm Veglia tach (it'd turn 10,000), giant Del Orto carb and low sport bars. Managed to "do the ton" as the Brits say. That doesn't seem like much now, but for a 250 single and my 225 lbs+, that was pretty hot stuff "back in the day". I kept the Duke til @ 1984 then sold it. There were a number of bikes after that - most were of the "needs work" variety. A 1965 Honda CB160 - hauled my big butt around pretty nicely & having an electric starter was real luxury! The 1965 Greeves model 24TFS Enduro was my first real Dual Sport. It would putt-putt-putt up any trail or incline and the leading link front forks were great. Let's see, had a "free, just get it out of here" Vespa Scoter for a while - a 1958 model I think. Then there was a period of @ 14 years with no bike at all - too busy raising - and paying for - kids. Finally got back on 2 wheels in 1999 - a 1987 BMW K75. Bought it w/ 45K on it, kept it 4 years, rode 40K miles, thru 29 states and 5 provinces before selling it. Had a couple of "restoration project" bikes also. A 1983 Yamaha YZ125 - ran like blazes, but I'm not into racing, so after I got it together I sold it to a young guy who was. An "it's all there" 1969 Bultaco Matador was the next project. Took me almost 2 years, but it turned out beatifully. Ran nicely too. Got my money back out of it in a sale to a co-worker. Meanwhile my main ride was a 1998 BMW 1100GS . Great road bike but a bit much in the soft stuff. Kept it 4 years, 30K miles and then went to my first KLR 650. It was a 2003 and had lots of mods. I loved it. But after just over a year I sold it :( . I gave in to temptation and got another BMW - a gorgeous 1982 R100RS. It was a wonderful bike but unfortunately, my old achin' back just wouldn't put up with the "sport" position any more. So, missing my KLR, I was able to negotiate an even-up trade for another KLR - this one a 2006 w/ just @ 4K, H-T bags and a tall wind screen :) . I think I'll stick with the KLR for awhile - it's simple, easy to work on (even I can do it!), reliable, lots of after market, and gets great mileage to boot. I even like the looks - but hey, I'm no authority on bike beauty - jez, I liked the looks of the Zundapp, the Greeves and the GS! Next to any of them the KLR looks pretty damned good! Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. Cheers,

Subaru Outbacks in Saranac lake : I took a walk around the neighborhood this nice spring afternoon and shot photos of Outbacks that I came across. I knew they were a popular model up here in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondacks, but I was surprized at the number I saw just walking about town for an hour. Twenty four Outbacks! Ours is the first one in the series - a white 2007.

The Forest Home Road, Saranac Lake, NY Fall 2007 : This road is one of my favorites and is 1/2 mile from my home in Saranac Lake, NY. The road runs from the village to Lake Clear - ten miles to the north. It has about 65 turns and a number of elevation changes. Traffic is usually low, but if you get behind a slow mover there's only about 2-3 short sections to pass. The road is well paved and most turns are comfortably taken at 40-50 mph, with one sharper turn about mid-way. In the spring and early sunmmer - that's "snow gone" til mid-June - you have to watch for sand on the pavement - especially on the inside of turns. These pictures were taken on a late September ride more or less in order from the Saranac Lake end to Lake Clear.

The Yamaha 125 : 1986 YZ125, I bought this bike in Sep 2005. It had been sitting out in the open for a year - in the rain and snow - and didn't run. The engine turned over and it had a nice strong spark so I took a chance on it. I've been working on getting it in order and restoring it. As of August, 2006 It's up and running and seems strong - still some work to do though.

Hope the new figures will last for many Christmases to come.
